office 97 effects monitor display

Hello,
I have installed my copy of office 97 in my computer running winXP home edition with sp1.Though the program appears to work correctly, everytime I use office 97, The screen goes blank foe a few seconds and then comes back on, but the resolution in now operating at an 8-bit low resolution. Is there any way to correct this?Is this a result of operating in winXP?

that version of Office is outdated, but still should work in XP, there will be a few minor issues but I have yet to see one with the screen resolution.

you should go to do Windows Updates as you are still using SP1 and since SP2 has been out almost a year now there have been a ton of updates and patches. I suspect you may have some outdated drivers and such on there causing that issue.
