Office XP Name Problem

I have installed Office XP (all programs are 2002). When any of my programs load it shows (on the splash screen) the company name on the second line as it should be, however, on the top line where it should show my name it says:

"User Name Placeholder."

Any ideas on how to fix this?

Thanks,
Gary

you can edit it in the registry, be careful on doing this!

go to Start button > to Run box > type regedit , this opens the registry

Navigate to the HKEY_CURRENT_USER > Software > Microsoft > Office > 10.0 > Common > UserInfo

On the right side of the pane you will see Company, UserInitials, UserName

Highlight each line and right click and select Modify. Do not mess with the numbers but to the far right you will see in each line what was setup when Office was installed. You can change the name, initials and company there in each key line. When done you hit the File and Exit.

Hi,

Thanks for the suggestion. I tried that, now all I get is my name with lots of little squares after it, which causes the "About" window to go off the screen. And I'm a little silly, I forgot to backup my registry! lol

were you able to fix it then??

read this page, it has a walk through to edit the reg key for Office

So if you did not fix it follow that page and you can redo the key.

Yep, managed to get my registry sorted. Used the Walkthrough on the link, and still no lucksorting the splash screen. I think I'll probably leave it... because the correct info is in the "About" box, just no on the splash screen. lol
