Outlook Express 6 Error when sending email

When I try to send email I get the following error.

Response Received 550 5.7.1 Relaying denied. proper authentication required.

Hi Russt7 and welcome.

This may be your firewall settings. You may need to configure your firewall to allow OE to send mail. What firewall are you using? It should just be a case of changing a setting.

I'm not familiar with McAfee but there should be a setting that you can change to allow OE to send mail. You'll need to refer to the McAfee help files or any documentation that came with the software.

BTW, always best to post replies in the original thread. Other folks may have the same or a similar problem and a quick read of a thread like this could help them.

The Relaying message is most likely coming from your provider's server. Check your settings, and make sure you've provided a user id/password for both sending and receiving.
