Virtual memory - WHAT IS THAT???

Can anyone tell me it means when my computer seemingly randomnly tells me it is increasing the size of virtual memory I have?

If you're seeing this message you may have a default pagefile size that is too small.

What OS are you using, and how much RAM do you have?
