I've started having a very odd problem when opening MS Word (Word XP) in the last day or two.
When I open word, the usual window opens, and works fine. However, a second window also opens on the desktop (and is present on the taskbar) which is blank other than a word status bar at the bottow (i.e. shows page, caps lock status etc). This window is resizable, minimizable etc but can't be closed (Grrr...!) If anyone has any idea 1) why this is happening and 2) how to get rid of it, I'd be very grateful Thx, Aljrob |

Hi Christy,
That article looks promising, but unfortunately I am not using Word97, it's Word XP. Also, the "Phantom" window does not contain a document, it's just a word window (with no menubar, icons etc although it does have a status bar at the bottom). Any other ideas? |

You may have already done this but have you tried opening Word and clicking on Help then choosing "Detect and repair"? I would check both boxes in the wizard then let it do its thing. Never know, it may work and may not. Worth a shot if you haven't tried it.

I would also suggest (if you haven't already done so) you go to Microsoft and download any updates or anything else you might need for Word.
