Problem in word 2002

I have word open and when I mouse over the menu bar commands,
the words do not highlight and if I click on them, they do not respond.
If I minimize and then maximize the window, they start working again.
Has anybody ever seen this happen? If so, how did you fix it?

It sounds like there is something else on your computer that's demanding "focus". The minimize, maximize, and close buttons are part of explorer.exe so will always respond as if they're on top, but everything else in a program is held within the application and doesn't necessarily have priority on focus (focus is when the window is "on top" so the mouse will interact with it). Get the problem to happen again and then go through and close any TSR's (the things in the "processes" tab of "Windows Task Manager"{<Ctrl>+<Shift>+<Esc>}) that have your username next to it one at a time (besides winword.exe of course). After closing each one see if you can access your word menus. When you can access them again you'll know which program is causing it. If the name of the process is not intuitive and you can't find it in a google search, post it here and we'll tell you what it is. Please post the process on here no matter what for other people who are experiencing this problem.
