Newby-Q: Linking "Price" column to "Item" drop down in Excel 2003?

Hi, sorry in advance for the newbie question, but...

I've created an order form with an "Item" column.
Each "Item" cell has a drop down control with our 4 products.
The next column over is a "Price" column.
I want the Price data to auto-populate depending on which Item is selected.

So, in other words, Item W costs $1
Item X costs $1.50
Item Y costs $2
Item Z costs $5

When X is selected from the drop down control, $1 should automatically appear in the "Price" cell. Is there an easy way to do this (hopefully without coding)?

Hi sdchap,

The best way to do this is to add a data table to your workbook, containing a list of items in one column and their prices in another. Then, whenever an item is selected from the drop-down, a LOOKUP formula can be used to retrieve the price from the data table. See Excel's help file for details.
