Page number references in Word 2007
I have been using hyperlinks in a very long document to reference another part of the document. E.G. "See here for details" where the word "here" is the hyperlink.
This is fine for the document inside Word, but is pretty useless in a printed document. Is there any way to say "See Page xx for details", in such a way that the page number automagically updates as the target page number changes? In an ideal situation, the "Page xx" would be a hyperlink, but I'd settle for "See page xx or click here for details". Thanks Tony |

Re: Page number references in Word 2007
Hi Tony,
If you use References|Cross-Reference, Word allows you to insert either the reference text or the reference text's page number. Either form of cross-referencing can function as a hyperlink within a document. After inserting the cross-reference, you can format it to look like a hyperlink if you prefer. The most robust way to do this is via a Charformat switch. To do this: . select the cross-reference and press Shift-F9 to expose its field code, wich will look something like { REF _12345678 \h } . format the 'R' in 'REF' or 'P' in 'PAGEREF' (depening on the type of cross-reference), as blue underlined text and add '\* Charformat ' to the field code, before the '\h'. . when you're done press F9 to update the field.

Re: Page number references in Word 2007
Thank you for your prompt reply.
I've almost got it now. The only issue is that the formatted link (the page number) is a paler blue than the other hyperlinks. It won't matter much in this document, since they will all be the same, but for future reference, which blue should I use? I've tried them all, but it doesn't seem to make any difference. Finally, will these page numbers automatically update if I insert or delete pages, or do I need to do anything special when I save the document? thanks again Tony |

Re: Page number references in Word 2007
Hi Tony,
The true hyperlink colour should be plain blue (R=0,G=0,B=255) Yes, the cross-references will update to reflect pagination changes, though you may need to do a print preview or Ctrl-A then F9 to see it happen.
