Outlook Express email files

Hello,

I recently reinstalled Windows. I want to restore all my emails from Outlook Express. I found a .pst file and opened it. It restored lots of my old emails, but all from 2005 and prior. I can't find the latest ones.

As I recall, it saved them as .eml files. Where can I find these eml files?

Also, the newer version of Outlook Express I now have seems to save them as .msg files. .msg files seem like they're binary, while .eml files were pure text. I have some custom programs that use email to query a database and extract data from email files, but they must be in a text format. How do I make Outlook Express save them as eml's, like my old Outlook Express did. Or any type of text file will do.

Thanks!

Re: Outlook Express email files

Thanks for the reply. I just searched the entire hard drive for any files with a pst extension. It found none :(

I've usually seen Outlook Express files as .dbx

Anyway, did you honestly reinstall Windows without doing data backups ???

Thanks. I searched for, and found my .dbx files. My emails are now restored!

My HD became unbootable, so I cloned the unbootable hard drive, then did a destructive restore on the new drive. The original drive is now in an enclosure, acting as an external hard drive, so all my data is safe.
