Word is using computer speak

My “Office Word” just started just started adding these little dots whenever I use the space bar and this little backward P at the beginning and end of each line. It still shows my letters as I copied and pasted this post but it stays with all my word documents. It’s very annoying; any ideas on how to fix the problem Thanks

Re: Word is using computer speak

Hi Rick0024,

Sounds like you have selected 'Show Formatting'. In Word 2007 click Home and then click the 'backward P' in the Paragraph section. In earlier versions of Word, Tools, Options, View should take you to the place to hide formatting.

Re: Word is using computer speak

In earlier versions it is Show/Hide. It is toggled by the Show/Hide icon on the Standard toolbar (the one that looks like a backward P - this is called a pilcrow, BTW).

Re: Word is using computer speak

Actually, most professional Word users keep this ON. I know I do. I want to see those dots and pilcrows. It makes using Word (IMO) much easier, not harder.
