Word & Excel 2007 - the programs load fine, but docs load slowly

Hi. I've searched around and don't think I saw a discussion on my exact issue. I have a relatively new HP laptop with Office 2007. A few months ago I began having issues when trying to open Word and Excel documents when Word and Excel were closed. If Word/Excel are already open then docs load just fine.

Also, Word/Excel themselves open in a matter of seconds.

So the only time I have issues is if Word/Excel are not open, and I try to open a file either from an email attachment or directly from a folder on my computer. It can take up to a minute vs. a couple of seconds of Word/Excel were already open.

I ran the Office diagnostics tool and found no issues. I have 3GB of RAM so that's no the issue. Rebooting does not help. I have tried the following at the suggestion of others: disabled my virus scanners, changed my printer to a local (USB) printer vs. one on my network, still no luck.

First do you have any addons installed into office?

Second, you can try creating an extra temporary user profile and see if that makes a difference

I have a couple add-ins but I disabled them all and still no luck. But again, the programs open fine, and once the programs are open documents open fine, it's just when I try to open a document when the programs are closed.

Can you further explain the extra user profile?

I'm actually using Vista, not XP (which the link references), does the fix work for Vista as well?

Thanks. I actually enabled the guest account, logged in with that, and Word/Excel docs load just fine. I then went back into my account and they load 'ok'. Not as good as the guest account, but not as bad as it's been recently. I'll continue to monitor and see what happens. If it goes back to being bad, was your solution to just use the new account? Or was using a new account supposed to 'fix' something?

Gotcha. So as long as Word/Excel work with the new account, just move all my stuff to that account and use it going forward...
