Import my emails

Hi All

OK Here is my problem. My laptop motherboard has just failed so I am left with a hard drive full of my data. This hard drive has xp installed with office 2007. I am going to use a USB caddy to get access to the drive and get off my data, ie docs, photos ect, but my main concern is the email that is in outlook. I have NOT exported it to a pst file and I will be pluging the drive into a vista laptop that has outlook 2007 installed.

My question is how do I get to the emails off the drive which is now basically a external drive.

Thanks in advance for any assistance

Re: Import my emails

If it's a PST file, you should know where it is. I do this, a lot, so I'm just going to give you the steps I go through.

The files are located in various locations here: http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/ou...669141033.aspx

Back those up... or at least the ones you want.

Then install MS Office again, run outlook, set up your account again. Put the files back where you found them after you close out of MS Office.

Let me know if you run into trouble.

Re: Import my emails

You can also search for *.pst with it set to look in hidden and system folders

They're usually .dbx files I think, if you've never backed up on the older versions, not sure about the newer ones.

Thanks for this. Once I have set up office on my new laptop can I just import these pst files or do I have to copy them into the same directory on my new laptop?

Cheers

Re: Import my emails

Try importing them, if it works yipee. If not, copy them to the same directory. It's a painstaking process, but it's the only surefire way I know how.
