I find Outlook maddening - can I just assign my Gmail account as default e-mail?
Hello.
I can't handle Outlook. I just can't get my mind around it. It is the default e-mail service when I click on somebody's email address on a website, but half the time the messages don't seem to get sent. They always get stuck in my Outbox, and when I click on them they have the caption "This message has not been sent". OK... So... How can I send them? WHY aren't they getting sent? For clarification, lately these are mostly Craig's list addresses. When I click them, the addresses go into the address box with single quotation marks around them, which I don't understand at all... I would really prefer to be routed directly to my Gmail account when I click on people's e-mail addresses, on websites. Is there a way to do that? Thanks, Bob H. |

There is a way! Use Google's Gmail notifier, you can make Gmail your default mail client, which means it will open a Compose window when you click on a web page email link.
Download and install the free Gmail notifier. In Windows, right-click the Notifier icon in your system tray, and select "Options." Then check the box next to "Use Gmail for internet mailto: links" and click "OK." Let me know how it works, I'm using Ubuntu, so I could be a bit rusty :-P

Hey! Thank you so much! What a relief; it's so much easier this way. I didn't know about that software before, but I've installed it now and it works just fine.

Outlook is evil. It took over again. I reinstalled the G-mail notifier and am again in control. But Outlook started acting like I'd authorized it to be my outgoing mail service, which I never did. I have to watch Outlook like a hawk. Seriously, that software is evil.

Uninstall it. That should stop it from being evil. Software is like a puppy. Give it a chance sure, but when it gets older and starts biting it's master. You have to put it down.

Yeah. I had to put her down. R.I.P., Outlook.
I just can't handle software that's too aggressive... Thanks for your help. Bob |

Anytime Bob, if you could go up to the top of your original post and hit Thread Tools-->Mark This (somthing) as Solved it'd be a great help to the forums and those that search it.
