Excel 2002, Very slow opening files, HELP

Hello All, Hopefully someone on here can help me out with an issue I have been troubleshooting for quite some time.

I have a computer that is running Windows XP SP2 and Office XP Standard (Word,Excel,PowerPoint 2002) that is taking about 2-5 minutes to open Excel files using the Open or File Open within Excel. The file located on the root of the C:\ Drive and is only 48K in size. It appears to open just fine if I navigate to the file and double click it but will take a few minutes to open if I try and use the Excel Open File menu or CTRL+O.

I have uninstalled/reinstalled Office
Completely reimaged/reformatted the hard drive.
This does not occur on any other computers and I'm at a total loss as to what could possibly be happening since I've already completely re-imaged the hard disk.(Figured that would have taken care of any software issues)

Hopefully someone will be able to chime in with some useful info, Thanks everyone!

I'm curious if you open excel in safe mode
start-run... type excel /safe push enter
does it still take 2-3 mintues to open.

Re: Excel 2002, Very slow opening files, HELP

I had this problem too. What was causing it for me was the default printer was set to a network printer. I have also seen this happen due to printer that was no longer available too. Check your printers first and set a local printer to the default and give that a try.
