Outlook Express refuses to work with GMail
I've configured and re-configured both Outlook and GMail to the point that I am certain it is not merely a configuration issue.
THe primary symptom is that OE will both send and recieve e-mails with GMail when the account is first set-up, but shortly thereafter it breaks down and stops working. If I delete and then rebuild the GMail account, it works for a short time, then it again stops working. Ad Infinitum... I had the idea that "System Restore" was resurrecting bad data for some reason, so I turned it off and re-built the GMail account. It worked for a short time, then it stopped working. I read somewhere that e-mail scanning causes problems with OE, so I turned off the AVG and rebuilt the account. It worked for a while, and then it stopped working. I have WinXP SP2 Pro, and Office XP with SP3 installed, and Internet Explorer 6-something. Can anyone help with this, please ? Thanks in Advance. EDIT********************** Update: Read somewhere that e-mail scanning causes Outlook to choke. So I turned off AVG's e-mail scanning and re-built the OE account. It's working now. I can exit OE, and come back into it and it will still Send & Recieve. Next test is a re-boot and see if it can survive that. I'll update as the issue progresses. |

Hey 'Billy Brethren'
I think that you might just be having the same ... or close to issues that many hotmail accounts are having ... Please look at the other threads that deal with outlook/hotmail ... We have been having access issues to 3rd party mail systems from within outlook ... It just might be the same issue ... I am also looking into getting an invite to Gmail ... cause I am sick and tired with hotmail right now ... This issue started Feb1st 2005 ... and makes me have to resign on to hotmail through a web based browser .... IE to solve the issue ... It happens 10~20 times a day !!! I use Outlook for sync'g my PDA ... so it is just much easier to use Outlook for everything !!! Paul Jamieson Toronto, Ont., Canada |
