EEK! Word 2007 Problem

Hi there, I hope you can help me out.

I've been running Word 2007 as part of the Office Suite for 2 and a half years now and it's been fine so far.

However recently, I've noticed the following problems have developed:

1) When double clicking a Word document on desktop or in an explorer window, Word will open but then bring up an error message saying that it cannot open the file because it's not at the specified location, which it is.

2) When Word is open, it will not let me use the mouse to edit the document. I.e. I can't click to place the cursor somewhere in the text, I can't use the mouse to highlight text and I can't even click on the scrollbar to scroll through the document. Instead I just have to use the keyboard to do all of the above. Clicking the toolbars works fine though.

3) When closing Word, it always says that "Word is not responding", then it goes through a stage of attempting to identify the problem, then it starts trying to re-open Word, which I usually just cancel because obviously I'm trying to close it. Even when it reopens though, the problems persist.

I haven't been using Word too much since this started so there could well be other errors but those are the three I've noticed.

I've tried completely uninstalling and re-installing Microsoft Office from my machine but each time the problems continue. My family are all also using the same version of Word (it's a copy provided by an educational facility where I study and my Mum works) and they have experienced no problems.

I was wondering if anyone has come across something like this before or if anyone has any suggestions on how I could go about fixing this problem?

Any help would be much appreciated.

Cheers,

Adam.

Re: Word 2007 Problem

Go to start > all programs > Microsoft office tools > Microsoft office diagnostics Then click continue and then run diagnostics...
Let the diagnostics run and post back with any problems or results that it finds...

Re: Word 2007 Problem

Ok I've run the diagnostic, and it found one problem (with the first thing that it scans) that could not be corrected automatically. So I've 'Continue'd to the Microsoft Office online site and it has one suggested solution for me which I need to download a 'cumulative update' but upon clicking through to download the update it says just that:

"Starting August 1, 2009, Microsoft will discontinue support for Office Update. To continue getting the latest updates for Microsoft Office products, use Microsoft Update. For more information see the FAQ."

I clicked the 'Microsoft Update' link which has opened up the Update explorer window with two updats to download, however, whether or not these are the correct ones (i.e. the Word ones) I'm a little sceptical. I'll let you know what the updates are/if they fix it when they're done downloading and installing.

Re: Word 2007 Problem

Alas, no luck, I downloaded and installed the recommended update which included the Office Suite Service Pack 2 but the problems with Word persist.

The full list of updates installed can be seen in a screenshot here: http://i273.photobucket.com/albums/j...Screenshot.jpg

If you have any other suggestions, please let me know :(

Re: Word 2007 Problem

OK how about trying to repair the installation...
Click start> control panel> then select add/remove programs.
scroll down till you find Microsoft Office 2007 click on it, then click the button that says change. when the window opens up you'll have three check box choices select Repair and click next...

Also Microsoft Office word 2007 does have a feature under word options> trust center> trust center settings button> privacy options.. you'll see a choice of "downloading a file periodically that helps determine system problems". you can check that and see if it helps, I didn't think you would be interested in using that feature but just in case the install repair doesn't work (I did use this feature in the past and it did fix my problem then I just went back in and disabled this feature, only thing is the problem I had was not like your problem...well hope this helps..
post back with an update if you could...

Re: Word 2007 Problem

Hey mate,

I tried the repair in add/remove but that didn't do anything, and then I tried to get into Trust Center in Word Options but not being able to use the mouse to select the Trust Center menu meant that was a no go.

I resorted to then searching on google once more and found this soultion which fixed it straight away and with absolutely no bother: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/940791/en-us?FR=1

Thanks very much for all your suggestions though, much appreciated :)

Cheers
