Hi!
I recently went through a batch of computer problems which, as it turned out, were caused by bad RAM. I've since managed to repair everything (I think), except for Office XP. When I try to run any Office app, I get the error message "The operating system is not presently configured to run this application". I've reinstalled Windows (I'm on '98, btw), reinstalled Office, uninstalled and reinstalled, repaired, custom installed, etc, etc, etc. I cannot for the life of me figure this one out. If anyone can point me in the right direction on this, I'd be extremely grateful. -frantic |

Oh, I'm sorry. the correct answer was: "Yes, office XP will run under Windows 98" But thanks for playing. We have some nice parting gifts for you. Ok, if you had bad RAM... did you wipe the drive and re-install the OS before you tried to re-install Office? If you didn't... well, that's your problem right there. I don't even wanna THINK about all the 98 system registry snafus a case of bad RAm could casuse. It's enough to make me wanna hurl... ... my copy of Windows 98 into the nearest conveinent furnace. (BTW, you REALLY should consider upgrading to XP or at least 2000. OfficeXP has features in it that were designed to take advantage of the Windows 2000/Windows XP kernal. You're cheating yourself by running Office XP on a 98 machine) BTW: If your copy of XP dammaged your office, co-workers, or yourself when it exploded*, you may be entiled to claims of wrongfull software expolsure against Microsod. Take note of where the Clippy mascot landed when it exploded, as it may be used as a wittless for the offensive if this goes to trial. *unless you live in Iraq, where expolding software is the least of your worries.

Ooh, wiping my drive would make me cry. I'm going with Win98 because it's nominally more stable than XP, despite what MS claims, but yeah, I'm thinking it might be time to make the leap. Kind of weird to think that '98 is almost a decade old now, which is an eternity in computer terms. I did reinstall the OS -- was kind of hoping that would overwrite whatever was causing my hassles. No go, obviously.
Yeah, I guess I'll have to run out and get myself a copy of XP somewhere. Thanks for the help, guys! -frantic |

98 more stable than xp could not be futher from the truth,xp makes earlier systems look like they belong in the ark
problems arise when it is not installed properly the computer it is being installed on is to old to run it properly if at all incompatible hardware unupdated software being installed and an inadequate power supply when you set it up put the windows installation on it's own partition and everything else on a another partition[s] then if you need to reformat, you do not have to worry about losing everything |
