Help!

for a couple of wks, have had problem with Word freezing. Wait a while then can use again. sometimes freezes again. Same with using Internet - freezes then ok if wait long enough.
I've run Virus scan, etc. No problems there.
Sometimes I never can get anything to work. Rebooting not work.

Is my motherboard about to quit? Oh, I just thought - I wonder if is overheating?? But never had that problem.

Desktop - Windows XP w/all downloads - MS Office w/all needed downloads
Have had motherboard for a minimum of 1 year. Intel Celeron 2.13
80 GB HD and only 1/2 used. C drive is on one HD (all programs) and My Documents is on another HD

Does anyone have any idea why my computer keeps freezing..

Thanks loads,

Re: Help!

Try rebooting in Safe Mode with Network and see if the problem is still there. It's likely a software problem.

Re: Help!

As of today 04/23/2009, rebooting in safe mode w/ Network - did not work.
Thinks got much better after an auto update from Windows. But I did figure out that a lot has to do with whether I have the internet open / using, etc. Often, Word freezes when I try copying from the internet to word. - never did that before.
AND when I am searching in Word - if I stop it or just click anywhere on screen - search stops, sometimes begins again, sometimes stays froze & non-responding.

So I have adjusted what I do & not do so I can get through with this college semester.

Anymore ideas anyone.

thankyou

Re: Help!

Does anything you're doing in Word have anything to do with the Internet?

Re: Help!

As far as Word & the internet? I can not say positive because this also occurs when I've not used the internet.

And I haven't used Excel & the internet often enought to remember if it happens then.

Re: Help!

  1. Are you using dial up or broadband?
  2. Also, try booting up in Safe Mode, but this time without the Network, just select Safe Mode.
  3. What's the duration for how long your computer freezes, seconds or minutes?
  4. Which browser do you use?

Re: Help!

I'm using cable. But now my problems has gotten larger.
virus??? Tried to fix. ha ha
Now Windows opens but screen is just my screen. No icons, etc.
Tried reinstalling Windows XP. Keeps saying different files are corrupted.
Looks like I need drivers
dpti2o.sys
doc960nt.sys
acpi.sys
dmio.sys

I may just need to borrow a Win XP to reinstall - if I can find one.
I am currently on another computer so I need something I can download & copy to flashdrive or CD.
