This morning I opened OE to find no mails in sent folder.
Also upon exiting Outlook Express sometimes there's a msg box saying something like: "disk space full; compacting" Question: how do we retrieve mails that were in SENT folder? |

Re: Outlook Express 6.0
Hi shalinis and welcome to TSF !
That's one of the reasons why I don't use outlook. You may be able to retrieve your mails if you access your mailbox using your browser and the address of your mail provider. For instance if your address is whatever@wherever.com type www.wherever.com in your browser, enter your login and password and go to your "sent" folder. The problem happened because your system drive is full. If you have big media files on it (on the desktop or in the "my documents" folder for instance), try to move them to another drive or to an external drive. Try to leave at least 2GB of free space at all times on the system drive to work properly, 10GB or more is advisable. Empty your temporary folders : restart the computer, go to start => run and type %temp%. Select all the files and folders there and press shift+del. If there's any file in use that can't be deleted unselect it and retry. Empty the recycle bin. Then go to start => all programs => accessories => system tools => disk cleanup. Select the system drive, tick all the boxes except compress old files (this would slow the system down a little) and click ok. Please don't send private messages to the team members, this is a forum so it's not unusual to wait 24 hours or more before you get an answer but you'll get one eventually. Thanks for your response.
followed your instruction and this helped me clear the clutter. Thanls!!! BUT previous mails in SENT folder are still missing although I've all today's SENT mails. How Do I RETREIVE lost SENT mails??? I had gone thru http://support.microsoft.com/kb/9180...id=2578&sid=78 link but that provided a download for future protection purposes only. also is there a way(in Outlook settings) where, every time a mail's sent, a copy is automatically forwarded to another e-Mail account like myname@gmail.com Thanks!! |

Re: Outlook Express 6.0
See if you can ask those questions to your mail provider or outlook support. Support is usually free as long as it's chat or e-mails. Look for some help or contact link in outlook or on your mail provider's webage.
What happens of your sent mails depends on the settings you set in oulook : either your mails are downloaded to your computer and deleted on your mail provider's server or a copy is kept there. Some mail providers also don't automatically save the sent mails, this was the case with hotmail before it became windows live mail (you had to tick a box at the bottom of the mail to keep a trace of what you had snet). If the option was set to delete the content on the provider's server and keep a single copy on your hard drive then I can't really tell whether a full hard drive prevented the files from being deleted from the server or not. You'll have to contact outlook (microsoft) to make sure. Chances are your provider will have some backup. About your last question I'm pretty sure the option to forward all your incoming mails to another account exists for most e-mail providers (just look for the filters or forwarding rules in the mail options). Outlook might have that function too. I'll move this thread to the ms office support section in case someone there knows more about outlook. Last edited by justpassingby; 03-12-2009 at 09:16 PM. |
