Outlook 2007 - no forward and no switch to calendar

Hi, I seem to have a problem with my Outlook - the forward button is constantly greyed out, and also whenever I try and click into the calendar section after doing something in the email section it just freezes and has to be shut down using alt-ctrl-del.

I suspect something may have corrupt, but I'm not sure quite how to go about fixing it. Any ideas?

Thanks

Re: Outlook 2007 - no forward and no switch to calendar

start outlook in safe mode. that is click start=> run => outlook /safe press enter.
check outlook in this mode.
do you have any old recurring appointments in your calendar. if yes delete them.

Re: Outlook 2007 - no forward and no switch to calendar

I've done the safe mode, and I now have the forward button back, but it still freezes when I switch to calendar or if I am able to get in there, it now freezes when doing stuff in there which is worse than before. Any more ideas?
I'm running Vista Business if that helps with the commands (the run-outlook/safe didn't work, but I was able to use the deliberate safe mode within Outlook, so hopefully that does the same job...)

Ta heaps

Re: Outlook 2007 - no forward and no switch to calendar

Just an update on where I am at with my Outlook. I found how to open in safe mode in vista - hold the control key in the whole time Outlook is opening. Unfortunately this hasn't solved the problem - infact it seems to be getting worse. I now can't even attach items to an email! Should I reinstall Outlook - would that help solve the problem, or is there something else I should do to find out what is going wrong?

In answer to the above question I do have some recurring entries in the calendar, but it won't let me even get in there to delete them now so I'm going to have to find another way... Please, any suggestions?

Thanks

Re: Outlook 2007 - no forward and no switch to calendar

follow ms kb article http://support.microsoft.com/kb/829918 and create a new profile.
open outlook and check its performance.
follow MS kb http://support.microsoft.com/kb/287497 to repair your old pst file which is having problems.
Then try to open that pst file to check how it opens with outlook.

Re: Outlook 2007 - no forward and no switch to calendar

Hi Azmak

I have run those two items, and when I open Outlook with a different profile it seems to be fine. When I ran the scanpst.exe, it only picked up minor errors in each of my pst files (I am running 3 different email addresses through it outlook at the moment).

I have been able to open Outlook again in safe mode (it freezes straight away in regular mode) and download my emails, as long as I don't touch it while it is doing this.

I have the to-do list running down the right hand side of the screen, and it appears to freeze when it tries to bring up the to-do's. The little squares are there, and kind of flash as if it keeps trying to restart the information but there are no words in the to-do's. I have tasks in both the tasks list in my main account and also in the Business Project Manager (I've only started using this in the last few weeks - could this be part of the problem?). I can't close down any of these sections as it doesn't give me enough time to do anything before it all freezes, so I'm not sure what I should do next. Any ideas?

Thanks

Re: Outlook 2007 - no forward and no switch to calendar

Hi,

did you tried to import your old pst files in the new profile one by one.
As i mentioned earlier it is clearly some old appointments in your calendar items which are causing this problem. if you are not able to fix the problem with scan pst then the only option is to switch to the new profile and import your old data. import the folders one by one. dont import your old calendar items.
The other option which you can try is to disable BCM. open outlook in safe mode => go to tools => trust centre => addins => disable bcm from there.
then start outlook and check.

Re: Outlook 2007 - no forward and no switch to calendar

Hi Azmak
Thanks for all the suggestions - I'm so glad you are able to help me - I'd have no idea to go from here otherwise!!

The thing that was going wrong in Outlook seems to have totally stopped trying to work, so it meant it didn't freeze after a minute each time I opened it. I'm not taking any chances though, so I have exported all my email folders and contact/calendar/task information in separate .csv folders onto my hard drive (I also removed all the old .pst files that had built up with all the mucking around I've been doing over the last few days...). I have then removed all of the profiles in my outlook and started with a nice fresh new one. I now have one problem - the option to import or export stuff seems to have now disapeared from the File menu in the main screen of Outlook. This means ofcourse that I can't import all my information. Do you have any suggestions on how I could now get that back?

Sorry this seems to be such a complicated problem. Hopefully we are getting close to the end of it now. I don't think I will be using the Business Contact Manager any more - really doesn't seem worth it at this point! Any suggestions on other software that might do this kind of tracking contacts with different clients etc?

Looking forward to your reply... (Thanks so much)
