Install Both Office 2003 and 2007 Suites

I have Windows XP SP3 and Office 2003 Pro Suite on my computer. I want to be able to use both my Office 2003 Pro (which has Access) and Office 2007 Student and Home edition (which does not have Access) on the same computer. I used the Custom install feature when I installed Office 2007 to allow both versions to reside on my computer and everything seemed to install okay.

I then tried to set the defaults so that when I open a .doc or .xls file it would open with Office 2003 and when I open a .docx and .xlsx file it would open Office 2007. This only seems to confuse things and I keep getting the Office Initiallising message from time to time and cannot reliably open the desired version of Office. Any ideas how to fix this problem?

Re: Install Both Office 2003 and 2007 Suites

Did you install office 2003 and 2007 in separate folders? In what order did you install them. If you installed 2003 before 2007 and you installed them in separate folders, they should co-exist without causing any problems.

for me, i'm going to install office 2007 because you can open *.doc or older MS office formats. i don't need to install office 2003.
