MS office 2003

When I'm in excel and/or word, there seems to be "black out periods," lets say 15-30 seconds where the computer is not responding. This does this frequently and slows down my pace. What do you think?

Re: MS office 2003

That looks like enough hardware . . must be a software issue. Look in msconfig to see what is running at startup . . what antivirus are you using?

Do you have all Windows and Office updates installed?

Antivirus?? avast, but I think it has expired. What do you suggest for an antivirus? Windows and office updates, I believe they are current. How do I know?

Re: MS office 2003

Also check the autosave settings in Word and Excel.

And Defrag your hard drive.

Frequent saves to a fragmented hard drive can slow these applications in the manner you described.

The other thing I recommend is SpyBot-Search and Destroy (make sure it's the search and destroy application. there's one with a copycat name that's not as good.)

SpyBot-S&D finds and enables you to remove some things Avast and AVG can miss.
