Adding a link to shared document into a Calendar entry in Outlook 2003
Basically I'm trying to find out how I can add a link to a document in a shared network folder, to a Calendar entry in Outlook 2003.
I have a shared Calendar in Outlook which approx 10 people on my network can access. Also accessible to these 10 people is the shared network hard-drive, which contains, as you would expect, many shared documents, namely excel spreadsheets. I have set-up a specific Calendar to organise events which I am managing, and for each event there is a separate Calendar entry, often spanning 2-3 days. Within each of these entries I would like to include a link to a certain excel spreadsheet which has all the affiliated information on each event, e.g. You double-click a calendar entry and are greeted with a link (e.g. G:\Andy's Files\Events 2009\Mr. Michaelson Hip Course.xls) which when clicked instantly opens the spreadsheet. Sadly, however, I have tried a number of things, but to no avail. Does anyone know if this is at all possible, or of any kind of work-around. The best I have come up with so far is attaching a word document which contains the link, but it's clumsy and defeats the object - any help would be much appreciated. Please let me know if you need any other information, or if there is anything else I can add to clarify? Many thanks, Andy |

Re: Adding a link to shared document into a Calendar entry in Outlook 2003
Right... I have managed to get a bit further, but as of yet, it's still nothing ideal.
The best I can do is to create a Word document with the link to the shared document (G:\Andy's Files\Events 2009\Mr. Michaelson Hip Course.xls) on it and nothing else. Save it. Then in my calendar entry insert this Word document as an embedded object so the link appears in the actual calendar entry itself. However, to activate the link, you have to double-click the "object" at which time you have to click through a pop-up box which asks you to confirm that you trust the embedded object. ("Some objects contain viruses that can be harmful to your computer. It is important to be certain that this object is from a trustworthy source. Do you trust this embedded object?") This, again, defeats the purpose of the link being the quickest way possible to access the information, and is by no means brilliant. Maybe if someone knows how to set Outlook so you no longer need to click through the pop-up box every time, it automatically "trusts" the embedded objects it would save time? Again, any help is much appreciated. Thank you. |
