WORD seems not to be opening with the NORMAL template... ???
When I open a new, blank document, the page layout is not the same as the NORMAL template. The top of the page is all the way, literally, at the top, and I can't use the ruler on the left margin to move the cursor down.
However, if I open the NORMAL template, the page layout is as before. I know that may not be crystal clear. It's hard to explain. Is there some way to teach WORD to open with the NORMAL template again, or some reason why it's opening with some other? HELP! Thank you. |

what version of office? do a search on your computer, including hidden files for normal.dot file, delete it or if you are afraid to delete it, move it to another folder or rename it.
It will be recreated the next time you start word.

Re: WORD seems not to be opening with the NORMAL template... ???
I weeded out all the NORMAL.Dot's I could find, but new documents are still opening in the same way:
The cursor is at the very top of the page. I think it has to do with the page view and not the template...¿??? What I really miss is having the left-side ruler to move the top and bottom of the page margins up and down. I can't get anything over there to move at all, although there is a ruler SHOWING. But it doesn't have the little arrows, or tabs, on it, for changing anything. |

Re: WORD seems not to be opening with the NORMAL template... ???
Hold the cursor at the top or bottom of the page. When it looks like two arrows pointing away from each other, double click. This will show the white space.
I use show/hide white space a lot when I'm working on my novels or on a long article. It allows me to see more of the document where there is a page break. To show or hide the ruler in 2007, go to View, click the Show/Hide button, and put a checkmark in the ruler box. 2003 and other older versions are slightly different, but searching Help on "Show Ruler" should get you an answer.
