I have a desktop that Outlook went crazy on. It started to use 99% of cpu usage, would take 10 minutes to open anything, and would not allow any other program to run because it was hogging everything.
I have run scanpst.exe (thinking the pst file was corrupt) detect and repair (thinking outlook itself was corrupt, reported missing a .dll but even after that was fixed it still does the same thing) disk clean up defrag The computer is amd based, win xp pro, and now has 1 gb of ram. Any suggestions before I uninstall outlook and reinstall it? thanks ahead of time |

Re: Outlook memory/cpu usage
I've never had this problem, but if I ever do, after doing what you've already done, I'll
Run Spybot-Search and Destroy Do a full antivirus scan Clean out old e-mails (don't forget to check the "Sent" folder. I rarely keep e-mails in Outlook very long. If it's important enough for me to keep permanently, I save it to a file in the appropriate directory. If it's just something I need to take care of then can delete, I flag it with the due date, and delete it when I'm finished. IMO, that .pst file is a major PITA. I've seen so many people who relied on it loose everything when their OS crashed or when some virus or trojan forced a repair or re-install.
