I am running publisher 98 on a Win XP machine. I use it to maintain a website.
I was updating my site and when I tried to cut and paste a text box, I got the above message. I am running a machine with 1 gig of RAM and 120 gigs of available space. I have deleted all my temp files, un-installed the printers, un-installed and reinstalled publisher 98. Unfortunately, Microsoft does not support this product any more. But it has worked flawwlessly for the past 10 years and I am expert at it. PLEASE - can someone help me? Or maybe point me to someone who can help me? Thank you |

Re: Publisher 98 - "not enough memory to paste objects" ???
Are your images inserted from files or directly pasted from their source into the .pub file? Direct pasting massivly bloats a .pub file. All images should be saved as files then inserted into the document.
Deleting temp files doesn't always give you more memory. Sometimes it doesn't even give you more disk space. The biggest culprit in memory problems is the number of processes running. Make sure your computer isn't auto-starting any unnescesary applets. Quick starts for MS Office and Adobe are particularly notorious for sneaking themselves in, but there are several others. Back up your data files, and archive any files you don't use frequently. (This is basically a second back-up where you remove the files from your hard drive.) Run full anti-virus, anti-spyware, anti-adware scans and be sure to empty the virus vault. (This is likely to require a re-start.) Next defrag your disk. This may take a while. It does go faster if you disconnect from the internet and quit any unneeded applets, including your anti-virus. Finally check the virtual memory setting. As you fill your hard drive, windows sometimes shrinks your available virtual memory. Printer drivers aren't likely to cause your problem, unless you have a printer with a huge driver file set as your default printer. I never set a physical printer as my default. MS Office is much happier when my PDF printer is my default. (Plus this significantly reduces the amount of paper wasted when I accidentally click the quick-print button)

Re: Publisher 98 - "not enough memory to paste objects" ???
Thyanx for those tips but My machine is not suffering from a lack of memory. This is a fluke specific to the program.
I know it is in the program itself because I ran it on another machine and got the same error message. If anyone can help me, I would be happy to pay a large financial reward, lets say $300.00 |

Re: Publisher 98 - "not enough memory to paste objects" ???
Have you tried doing a "saveas" of the file then trying the copy/paste in the new file? I know that's what I've occasionally had to do with complex excel files on occasion.
If a simple saveas doesn't do it, saveas then close publisher then open the new file might. The final variation would be a saveas, reboot, open new file. If the filename is important, you can always archive or delete the old file then do a rename. If this works, I have PayPal

Re: Publisher 98 - "not enough memory to paste objects" ???
This isn't just renaming the file in Windows Explorer.
When the problem file is open, do a saveas. Sometimes just doing a saveas works. If it doesn't, doing a saveas followed by closing out the application and rebooting may work.
