MS office problem

I have the following problem:

Lenovo 500, OS Win. XP with SP3, Office 2007 Basic Ed.
Every time when I am closing MS Excel I receive error that it can’t be closed properly. And after that when I’m trying to open the file the recovery file is opened.

I ran into something similar with Word a few months ago that turned out to be a registry error. I've also discovered that if my default printer isn't connected to my computer, MS Office tends to have problems, so I set my PDF printer as my default and no more improper closings.
