Evil Hyperlinks in Word 2003 and Excel 2003

Recently I experienced a problem I never had before. When I wish to insert a hyperlink in Word or Excel to a .tif file (the result of a scan I previously did) the link appears. But when I click the link to open the scanned file I get a message "No program is registered to open this file".

What do I need to do to register Word and Excel to open the linked file?
Or, how do I get around this problem?

.tif files need to be opened in an image management application.

Right click on one of your .tif files in Windows Explorer and select the "Open With" option. Then look for the "Choose Default Program" option. This might be slightly different in XP, but will be similar.

Before clicking on the application you want to use, look for a check box that says something like "Always use this program" and make sure it is checked.

Re: Hyperlinks in Word 2003 and Excel 2003

Thank for your recommendation. Using XP I did find the "Open with" option but I was not able to find a "Choose Default Program" option nor could I find a check box that says something like "Always use this program".

I was however able to get the hyperlink to open in Word by setting the hyperlink to open the folder that the desired .tif was in. I think I'll try saving the .tif file as a .jpg.
