MS Word opens 2 docs

Hi.
I'm using MS Office Home and Student 2007 with XP SP3.
Sometimes, not always, when I close a Word doc I get the following error pop-up.

"Microsoft Office Word has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the Inconvenience.
The information you were working on may be lost. Microsoft Office Word can try to recover it for you."

"Recover my work and restart Microsoft Office Word."
"Send Error Report - Don't Send"
I select "Don't Send: and it then opens a blank Word doc.
Help would be appreciated.

Hi Oldmanlat,

Have you tried running 'MS Office Diagnostics', from Word Options|Advanced?

make sure the "restart ms word" is not ticked in the "do not send" pop up
untick it and click do not send should stop it from opening another blank file

or try repair ms office
