Question Can't download email - task stuck without error

Outlook 2007 (with latest updates) keeps getting stuck downloading emails. It doesn't produce an error. It just sits there unable to download a 17.8K email file and all other email accounts similarly stop processing as a result.

What could be causing this?

Sounds like an internet connection issue. Are you on a network? Can anyone else send/receive emails?
Try rebooting.

I am using the same internet connection as the computer I am on. When Outlook starts it downloads some of the emails then suddenly stops. To top it off, Outlook will not quit when I try to exit the program. I can see it in the Task Manager still stuck doing something even though the program is no longer visible on the screen. I have to force it to quit using the Task Manager.

Restarting doesn't help. As soon as I start Outlook back up again after a restart it does the same thing.
