Excel question

I can't figure this out.

I put "1" in cell A1, "2" in cell A2, then select both of the cells, and drag the little box down, excel continues the patern like:

1
2
3
4
5

But, when I do the same thing exept with "A" and "B", Excel does this:

A
B
A
B
A
B

How can I make it so when using A and B, continues the patern like this:

A
B
C
D
E

Re: Excel question

Found this:

The reason why excel does not autofill an automatic Series of alpahbets is because there are few autofill Series created in Excel by default. These include Numbers, Dates, Months etc but alphabet series are not present.

You can create a Custom list to accomplish your purpose. Go to Tools - Options and select Custom List.

Select New List. Enter the alphabet series (Remember to hit the Enter key after every entry) and click on Add. This creates a Alphabetical series.

Now you can use the fill handle to create an automatic Series of alphabets further on for all times.

For 2007:

Quote:
To Add a Custom List to the Auto Fill Handle
Typing the new Auto Fill list yourself
1. Click Microsoft Office button > Excel Options to bring up the Excel Options dialog box.
2. Click the Popular tab in the left hand pane.
3. Click the Edit Custom List button in the right hand pane to open the Custom List dialog box.
4. Type the new list in the List entries window.
5. Click OK.
6. The new Auto Fill list appears in the Custom Lists window.

Hope this helps!
