Post Backing up emails using outlook vs outlook express

I wanted to know what is the exact file that is being backed up if a new computer is set up to connect to an exchange server. Or are all the old emails on the server and this is an unnecessary step.

Re: Backing up emails using outlook vs outlook express

If outlook was configured purely as an exchange client, then the messages reside on the server and if was also configured with office file storage, there's a copy of the message on your computer. That comes in handy should you be on the road with a laptop and NOT attached to your network and need access to your messages. Just make sure that the admins are doing their job and backing up the server. If not, everyone's email could potentially vanish.
