Mail Merge-2 pages, continue 2nd page only
I'm setting up a sign in sheet, I want to fill the names using mail merge. The sheet is 2 pages, the first page has all the workshop information, the second page is just to continue adding names once the first sheet is full. I want the mail merge to print through both pages, but any names in excess of what fits on two pages should be continued by printing only the second sheet over, right now, it prints both sheets until all names are printed.

Re: Mail Merge-2 pages, continue 2nd page only
As an example, if the first page contains some informative text followed by merge field codes, and the second page contains more of the same merge field codes, you could arrange the document so that the second page looks just like the first page without the informative text, then you could place the informative text at the top of the first page in an IF field, for example:
{ IF { MERGEREC } = 1 "Text For Page 1 Only" "" } This way, when you do the merge, the informative text appears only on the first page, and all subsequent pages will show only the data from the merge field codes. For more information on IF fields, you can refer to the following link: Mail Merge IF Fields |

Re: Mail Merge-2 pages, continue 2nd page only
Hmmmm...that is a very interesting solution, and would actually be very useful for some other things I've done.
In this case however, I'm not sure it would work well. The document I'm using (mandated format by the district) is made up of of several tables, the first half of page one has tables dealing with the basic information for the session, date, trainer, location, title, and other bits of information, all organized in a table, then another table (actually tables set in text boxes..I didn't make it) starts the sign in portion, which is then continued on page 2 with one row at the top for ID info (session title and date) and then the entire page is the sign in list. So..from what I understand about the If statements, they really work in regards to inline text, would they work given the table/text box format of this document? I will play with that and see.. I was really hoping there was a simple way to put a statement in at the end of page two that bsacialy says goto top of page 2 to continue the merge, kind of a loop type statement? Thanks again! That link had some great info on using the IF statements in mail merge, something I've not done at all yet... |
