My MS Word 2003 files open as corrupted

Please help. All my files in word 2003 are corrupted, and they show up as for example: v+ ] m0v)w6 q S
I have added the previous for there seems to be no real cure for this so far. Please help my life's work is gone. I tried the open office and star 8 and they had the same result. I tried the fix error in MS word and it did not work. My drive had crashed, and these were the recovered files from it. that are now corrupted. I thank you in advance for your anticipated cooperation. HELP PLEASE!

Re: My MS Word 2003 files open as corrupted

You might still be able to recover some (or even most) of the text through a debugging routine, but I don't know much about them.

Also, once in a while I have had success recovering text from files by opening them in a text editor. There will be a lot of very strange characters throughout the file that will have to be edited out.

Either way, you will probably loose all formatting information, and it's likely you will have to do a lot of editing to rebuild the files.
