Microsoft Excel 2003 Help
Hi Everyone,
I am trying to multiply a column by a percent but the math is not working for me. I am trying to take a number from column D and then multiply that number by 15% and have that number go to column F. So in F Column I had =sum(D2*15%) D2 = $0.44 When i do this i get $0.07 The math should come out too $0.66 Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!! Thanks Matt |

Re: Microsoft Excel 2003 Help
try 150%
remember, 15% = .15, so multiplying a number by 15% will result in a number that is smaller than the original. you won't get larger answers unless you multiply by a percent larger than 100% and you don't need the SUM() part D2*150% works just fine.

Re: Microsoft Excel 2003 Help
Thanks gistek,
Not sure your math works for my situation. I am trying to take (d2) $0.44 and add 15% percent to that number. So If i multiply by say 115% i get $0.51 That is not a 15% mark up of the original price. It should be (if my calculator is working properly) $0.66 |

Re: Microsoft Excel 2003 Help
Well, my calculator says the same as gistek.
![]() 15% of 0.44 = 0.06 gistek's method is very simple and quick - if you want an alternative, and a longer version more like the way you originally had it, the result would be =D2+(D2*0.15) Either way the result will still be 0.506 or 0.51 depending on the cell format.

Re: Microsoft Excel 2003 Help
0.22 is 50% of 0.44
It is not 15% of 0.44 So you're either looking for a 50% mark-up or your answer should be 0.51
