Access 2003
We have two networked computers, both running Windows XP Pro, and Access 2003. We have a database (MDB) file on computer 1. If the file is open on the computer housing the database, clicking on the file from computer 2 will not open the application. However, the file can be accessed by starting Access on computer 2 first. If the file is not open on computer 1, clicking on the file from computer 2 will open the application, but shows an error message warning about unknown publisher. Everything else on computer 1 can be opened from computer 2 with no problem. This database issue showed up after working fine for several months.

Re: Access 2003
What happens when you do double click on it from computer 2, does a different program open up? On computer 2 I'd make sure that Access is the default application for .mdb files. To check, open the My Computer icon (or use windows explorer), click on TOOLS>FOLDER OPTIONS>FILE TYPES and the scroll down to MDB and it should show something like Microsoft Access Application. If it doesn't, then you need to change it by clicking on CHANGE and select it from the list. If it's not on the list, then perhaps the installation of the program is bad. You can still set it up by clicking on BROWSE and finding the MSACCESS.EXE file.

Re: Access 2003
The file opened the application properly for several months. I don't have any reason to believe the file association changed on computer 2, but I will go to where these computers are and check to be sure it is correct.
Thanks |

Re: Access 2003
I'm sorry. I wasn't thinking clearly when I posted my last reply. Clicking on the file on computer 1 (where the database resides) from computer 2 does open Access on computer 2 providing the file isn't already open. However, if the file is already open on computer 1, clicking on it doesn't open the application on computer 2. Nothing appears to happen when we click on the file.
