Word 97 - Printing Issues in Vista

Hi All, - New to the froum so hope some one can help me out.

Operating system is Vista Business - I am using office 97 suite due to access files I still need to use. The problem application is Word 97 it simply will not let me access file > print......it just closes!!!!

But if you click on the print icon toolbar it prints fine, this is ok untill you need to change any of the parametes in the print setup i.e. only printing certain pages. I have searched the web hi and low and can only find references to changing the default template name and checking add ins, have done all this but still with no sucess. Does anyone know hjow I can fix this issue??

For Windows Vista, MS-Office 2003 and 2007 are compatible. Install anyone of this and try to take a print out........

Have all ready done this...they work fine, I am on a network with a large amount of users so I could not justify the cost of doing this, I have to find a work around for word 97.....I was wondering if anyone had experienced the same problem, and if so how they fixed it. All the other applications in the 97 suite work perfectly, its just word.

I have found a network PC where I could access the file > print dialog box and print from it (in word 97 - so I know its possible)........untill I decided to play with the default printer settings (changed default paper size from letter to A4) now the application just closes...even after I changed the settings back to how they were.....it still closes (as per all the other PC's), I have about 10 PC's with this issue - Any Ideas anyone?

I have resolved this issue....used a driver not intended for the model of printer being used......all works fine now, it must be a feature that HP are using in their latest drivers which word 97 does not like.

Hi there.

I had same problem 6 months ago even though I had been using WORD 97 for 3 months previously without problems. Tried everything I could think of to clear problem but could not. Then noticed that other "users" on my computer could use WORD/FILE/PRINT without problems when logged in, but through my "administrators account" it would not work. Created a new "Administrator account" , cleared the old account and everything now ok again.

Today had same problem again. Why? Saw your thread, changed printer driver to another, then back to correct driver (HP OfficeJet K550) and everything now ok.

Thanks for your idea.
