121 page word doc now choking on 32,676 pages
Hello,
I have a 121 page family tree (15 yrs work) constructed on word. I was adding some small family photos successfully until I tried to add a page size photo of a highly ornamental album page. The document jumped to 32,676 pages. Could not reverse, doesn't respond. This was late last night and I finally had to x out; now I'm stuck with it. Had tried "go to" to the last page so I could start deleting pages, but didn't respond. How do I get rid of the extra pages? Regards, Joan |

Re: 121 page word doc now choking on 32,676 pages
See if you can position your cursor on the very last word/picture in your document that you want. Then hit ctrl+shift+end (this will select everything between your cursor and the very last page). Given your 32 thousand pages...this selection may take quite a bit of time. Once this is selected, hit delete.
It is most likely Word will stop responding because of the massive resource drain it would take to make the selection. Be patient and give it time on the first try. If this doesn't work... try going to the last item you want in your document, hit ctrl+shift+home (this will select everything between your cursor and the top of the document). Copy and paste this selection to a completely new word document and try adding your picture again. Good luck! |

Re: 121 page word doc now choking on 32,676 pages
Thank you x97jfp.
I haven't had the courage to look at my work for over a week now, but was set to spend the rest of my evening trying your suggestions. Gritting my teeth I opened it and was shocked to see it down to 123 pages. Not sure what happened, but I did write down your instructions for future reference. I had tried looking through my computer for the particular jpg to delete it, but couldn't find it in the document. In any case, another learning experience and am glad to have found this site. Thanks again for taking the time and thought to respond. Regards, Joan |
