Excel add-in
I am trying to find an Excel add-in called "dirctory.xla". This file allows using Excel to capture the contents of a folder or directory which will display the folder or drive name, file name and several attributes. I have a copy of this dirctory.xla but it only works on Excel 97 and 2000. I am now using Excel 2003, where it does not work. I have googled it several times and did find a place to download it for $9.90, if memory serves me but again it does not work so have not paid for it even though the site says it is shareware and will work for a short period. The Microsoft web site comes up with a macro that is supposed to do the same thing but again that does not work. I get the following error message when an attempt is made.
Rin-Time 429 Active X component can't create object |

Re: Excel add-in
Thanks for the reply, however did not find any thing at the site you suggested, nothing about an add-in that reports within Excel the contents of the folder of choice including sub folders and all files in those folders. The file directory.xla did do that when I was using an older Office program.

Re: Excel add-in
When the page I linked to opens, scroll down and you'll see a list of file properties that are extracted. Then look for the "Get workbook here" link. I don't think it's an Add-In, more a workbook with sample code that you can experiment with.

Re: Excel add-in
Thanks for the suggestion, However I have tried numerous code snipits, non of which worked, I will go back and try the snipped you are suggesting but based on the others, including one from the Microsoft web site which did not work. I Left a message in that area as well.

Re: Excel add-in
If you cannot get the code to work, you might want to try one of the specialised Excel sites, such as
