Word 2003 - Either Querying to open in Safe mode / not responding

When I try to open a blank document after starting the computer for the first time, I'm getting the following message in the pop-up of Microsoft Office Word window: "Word failed to start correctly last time. Starting word in safe mode will help you correct or isolate a startup problem in order to successfully start the program. Some functionality may be disabled in this mode. Do you want to start word in safe mode?"
If I try to open an existing document after opening the word in safe mode, the word remains in not responding condition.
If I give cancel to open word in safe mode and try to open it normally, then also the word remains in not responding mode.
I opened word in safe mode and close the word opened in safe mode. If I try to open word, it remains notresponding.

I don't know why it happened? Need help.
