.doc

hi

My normal office file names have started having an suffix for eg if its word its like sam.doc or if its excel its like sam.xls. And the funny thing is if I try to change the file name it doesn't allow me. I'm using Office XP. What do I do.

Thanks and regards

Sam

Error message: If you change a file name extension it may become unstable. Do you want to continue?"

And when I say yes the icon changes!!!

Re: .doc

You are talking about the .doc and .xml portion (suffix) not the sam. portion (prefix) right?
Its not uncommon for the icon to change if you change the file extension.

Re: .doc

Yes. But when the file extension is changed I used to get the same "W" icon before and this happened just recently. I thought there might be some error in the ms office. And there was no .doc or .xls before. Just when you do the normal name change with right click, rename process nothing of this happened before!

Re: .doc

From an office document, click help, detect and repair. Lets see if something is wrong.

Re: .doc

Open My Computer, click tools, folder options, view, check hide extension for know file types. Does the suffix go away?
