mail merge with outlook express and word

use my personal computer at work which is on an internet network. I have windows media center edition 05 and I have outlook express 2003. My company does not provide any support or software and I know I'm out of date, but, for my limited needs these versions have always served me well. I don't really use outlook express for other than the address book to mail merge letters. I do not use it for email.

A coupld of weeks ago I was trying to do a mail merge using Microsoft word and using the address book in outlook express. I did it ok in December but now it won't work. I have not updated anything and really puzzled why I would be having a problem. I try really hard not to be tempted to fix something that is not broke but often find I'm my own worst enemy when it comes to computers ( and most other things!)

I do my document and hit the mail merge and that all comes up fine. Then when I come to select recipent, then I hit select from outlook (and I should mention I have outlook and outlook express (which I'm finding are two very different programs)then hit chose contacts folder. A screen pops up to choose profile (which is outlook internet settings). Next screen pops of labeled "Microsoft LDAP Directory, server name is null, port 3268, user name is null. Hit ok on that, next screen pops up "select contact list folder" and the list contains the folder "contacts", hit ok and then I get an error message of "This operation cannot be completed because of dialog or database engine failures, try again later". I have read all about making sure that the outlook express is the default mail client and read as much as I can find, have played around with all the setting ( and have it really screwed up I'm sure).
Any ideas? I have an E machine by the way, system crashed ( destoryed by a fellow employee I think) and reloaded with the abover older software.

Thanks to anyone that can follow this and help! I must have changed something in a setting somewhere along the line to run something else and screwed this up!
