EEK! outlook express to outlook

I am waiting on delivery of a new computer. I currently have windows 98 with outlook express. A family member has compressed all the files from outlook express to a disc. I hope that went well.
My questions are how do I get them into the new computer and the outlook program. Is there a very detailed simple step by step method to achieve this?

How do I add folders to the outlook? I currently have 17 folders in express. Does outlook create its own folders and the compressed files go in them or do I have to create them first then add the compressed folders?

If there is a link I will read the instructions to do this. Any help is appreciated on this topic. I would like to get everything ready so the changeover is fast and headache free.

I assume my internet provider will help setting up the address for the new system.

Re: outlook express to outlook

Hi

Thanks for the reply. In what I have read on the link would not both computers have to be functional at the same time to accomplish what it is asking?

In my mind I am sending the stuff in the old computer, somewhere, and then hooking up the new one getting the email set up and recieving the files form outlook.

The link does not say whether new folders will be created in outlook or do I have to do that first then send the stuff over?

I have also compacted them on disc.

Re: outlook express to outlook

best is really to install outlook on the same PC this will convert the outlook express file automatically to PST in outlook, then its a simple matter of moving the pst file

I have both outlook and express in this computer now. This is the one I am replacing. What is a pst file? So I can do what you are suggesting now and then transfer the pst file via email? to the new one or by what method?

Sorry for the late response but when you install outlook on the machine where outlook express is used then outlook automatically give you option to import all outlook express files.

a pst file is what outlook uses as a database fore emails, calander etc as compared to outlook express which keeps lots of files seperately.

did you not get the option to import outlook express? try uninstall and reinstall and look for the prompt.

Re: outlook express to outlook

hello
you need to put these files back in where you found them, then install outlook on the same PC this is the best way to convert outlook express data to outlook.
