Prompt disappearing in Outlook

Hi all, got a strange problem in Outlook 2003 when typing an email the typing prompt vanishes and I have to click back into the email for it to appear again. This happens randomly as well so there is no pattern. I've tried turning the hardware acceleration down a notch and also tried adjusting the cursor refresh rate and ticked not to hide the mouse pointer whilst typing. Any other ideas much appreciated.

Is this a notebook or desktop . . sometimes, on a notebook, you inadvertenly touch the touchpad while typing and it moves the cursor

it's a laptop but being used through a docking station. I think I've fixed it by installing the graphics drivers from intels website.
