Transfering an old Access database
A friend of mine has an old Access database on an equally old PC and he has asked me to transfer the entire kit and kaboodle to his new PC. I know I can export/import the database file but what about the customization stuff? Can that be transfered too or do I have to customize from scratch?
Thanks a bunch. |

Re: Transfering an old Access database
I'm not really sure on this. I know that if you try to open an older db Access will ask if you want to upgrade it to the more modern version. As to what customisation etc may be lost, I guess that will depend on the different versions on each machine.

Re: Transfering an old Access database
what version is the old and what version is the new? Depending upon the features of the database, its difficult to know if the whole thing will transfer or part of it. If its a simple database, the there should be no problems, if theres a lot of fancy formulas and macros, then there may be some problems.

Re: Transfering an old Access database
I would copy the whole file to the new machine and double click to open. You should bet a message about converting to a newer version - see what happens and what, if anything, is lost. Worth a try, as you'll still have the original file.
