EEK! Getting error when I try to install excel

I'm running XP SP2 and I was using ms office 2002 just fine all programs , but my school requires MSO2003, so I I dug my old disk from my computer that died a while back. I was able to install everything and it went fine. However when I went to Excel it tries to install and so I tried Repair and Detect and Re-installing I get the same message both times

Fatal error and do I want to send report:

EventType : office11setup P1 : {90110409-6000-11d3-8cfe-0150048383c9} this is what is contained in the report.

I went to the microsoft support page and tried everything there, lets just say I love System Restore. Now I get : this patch can't be installed when I try to open Excel. I'm at my wits end and I'm enrolled in a business documents class and I really need this to work....

Any ideas, I'm pretty easy to walk thru something.

Re: Getting error when I try to install excel

The problem there is that no one says which 1033 folder and there are hundreds, so which do I delete

Re: Getting error when I try to install excel

They will be in folders with names like this...

C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\OFFICE10\
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\OFFICE11\

That's a good point about how many there are, but I guess the author of the post assumed that the reader would know that the ones referred to belong to Office.
So my apologies for not including some additional info, and I hope this helps.

Re: Getting error when I try to install excel

I did try the ones with office in the names and still no go, well now it says a cab is missing but it goes so fast that I can't see which one. I had to do system restore again just to get the other parts working this morning. I'm about to give it up, because I'm afraid that I'm going to really mess up something.

Re: Getting error when I try to install excel

Ok when I tried that I got a patch error: something like invalid patch and can't be opened. Any more suggestions.

Re: Getting error when I try to install excel

Sorry none of that was helpful. I would try to find an Office MVP forum, or one of the Microsoft forums listed at http://office.microsoft.com/

I'm sure you are not the first person to have this problem, and there will be a solution out there someplace.

Good luck with it.
