Lost important document

Last night I finished a paper and when I woke up this morning, I could not find it along with 4 other word documents in the same folder. I thought I might have accidentally deleted them, but my recycle bin was set on immediately getting rid of files when deleted and I don't know if I can recover them. I downloaded a free recovery software, but those documents are not on the list. Is there any way that the documents are still on my computer?

Which software did you try?

If you open word, and go to File-Recent Documents (I think that's what it says) and open it from there what happens?
