Why in the name of god..........
did MS add an x to all the Office 2007 extensions?
I mean I understand why, BUT WHY !!!! I use Word & Excel the by far the most & have them set to Compatibility Mode but when changing, re-naming, & moving files around sometimes they still become an X version. Then I send them to a customer or whoever & they can not open them so I have to save them again & try again? Come on, I'm giving some serious thought to pulling Office 2007 off my machines & going back to Office XP. Any thoughts, comments, advice? fmg |

Re: Why in the name of god..........
You have two options. Firstly, you can save your file as an Office 2003 file and that will remove the X or you can have your coworkers install the compatibility pack for Office 2003 which they should do anyway because not everyone will save everything in the old format.

Re: Why in the name of god..........
There is a third option. Open Word 2007 > click on the Ribbon > hit Word Options > click Save on the left pane > select from the drop-down menu the default format you wish to employ for Word 2007 to save your files; this can be set to 'Word 97-2003 document (.doc)' if you wish > press OK. You can then follow the exact same procedure for Excel 2007 (only this time the button will say 'Excel Options'), and so on for all your Office 2007 Suite's programs.

Re: Why in the name of god..........
They added the X because not enough people upgraded from 2003.
I wonder if Open Office will open 2007X files. If so, then the file can be saved from that to a 2003 format. Wait, why bother, once it's in Open Office, just go ahead and work with it there.

Point is, if you don't know the differences, you'll probably fail to take advantage of any improvements they might bring to the way you work. |
