Re: Will I import my troubles with a new computer

Oops, sorry you had to bump - just saw that this issue of yours re-emerged...

Anyway, have you made any changes to your system, which might have evoked the same error again? Have you installed or updated anything recently (i.e., concurently with the problem re-appearing)? Can you please follow through the same procedure we performed the previous time, and report back what the findings were?

Re: Will I import my troubles with a new computer

Yes, this is the answer to my third question. And moreover, please post back what the answers to the first two questions of mine are.

Re: Will I import my troubles with a new computer

I did what steps were required in #6 of this thread. No problem. Then I did the next suggestion and in the document template box it said just plain old normal not normal.dot. This is what you asked below

.
Quote:
Open a problematic document, running Word normally (i.e. with no startup switches).

b. On the Tools menu, click Templates and Add-ins.

c. If the Document template box lists a template other than Normal.dot, click Attach.

d. In the Templates folder, click Normal (Normal.dot), and then click Open.
I did not press attach. That is it so far.

Re: Will I import my troubles with a new computer

Since the procedure outlined in post #6 above concludes without problems, that means your word.exe per se is not corrupted - it's yet again a template/add-on messing it. Please repeat the process of post #9, only this time follow through with attaching Normal.dot and then checking to see if the erratic behavior persists after your having done so.

Re: Will I import my troubles with a new computer

a. Open a problematic document, running Word normally (i.e. with no startup switches).

b. On the Tools menu, click Templates and Add-ins.

c. If the Document template box lists a template other than Normal.dot, click Attach.

d. In the Templates folder, click Normal (Normal.dot), and then click Open.

e. See if the behavior persists. Post back the results.

I once again followed the directions on post #9, and in step c my template box only shows normal so I just clicked "ok". I finished the other step and everything closed with no problems.

Re: Will I import my troubles with a new computer

I would like to confirm, agian that if I transfer old word docs to my new system I will not corrupt the new computer. As it is now all new word doc are fine but if I open any older word docs they have the problem outlined through this post.

Any way to repair the old docs?

Should I not take a chance with transferring?

I know I asked before but I do not want to screw this up.

Re: Will I import my troubles with a new computer

If I save the old documents to disc to view periodically is that the same as putting them in the new computer?

Re: Will I import my troubles with a new computer

You are still viewing them from the computer. If the files are corrupt you need to create new ones. Theres no way to correct them.
