RESOLVED "Quickstarter" for Microsoft Office 2003

Hi all,

I am currently in Windows, and I noticed that MS Office doesn't start as quickly as I thought it would. In Linux, there is a quickstarter that loads much of the program onto the RAM so it loads quicker.

I thought I remember MS Office having a similar thing, and I see that on many computer with similar specs to mine (Specs are in the "My system" drop-down box) that MS Office loads very fast.

For most of my programs, I use the prefetch trick to help them load faster (adding "/prefetch:1" at the end of the target in the shortcut), but I can't seem to do this with the MS Office shortcuts, and I would rather use a quickstarter if it is available.

Does anyone know where this? Thanks in advance.

Hi Matt

I'm guessing you are referring to the Office Shortcut Bar? Although it was just that - shortcut icons to each application nicely grouped together in a menu bar. Hate to tell you but MS dropped it for Office 2003 - no idea why though.

Hi Iain,

I am not referring to the shortcut bar. There is a little utility that makes MS office load quicker. It is used for MS office 2003 on the school computers. It shows up as a little flag icon in the startup folder of the start menu.

Sorry Matt, you've got me there. Not something I've ever even heard of to be honest. Is it a third party app?

No, it comes with MS office I think.

Depending on where Office is installed, look in

Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office11\OSA

Edit: Took me a while to realise that you were referring to osa.exe - sorry!
